Vertical Blinds Measuring Guide

Most vertical blinds are mounted "outside". The reason is that the large vanes require more depth than most windows or patio doors can accommodate on an "inside" basis. The exception would be deep casement type windows that have 3 to 4 inches mounting depth available.

These instructions assume you want the factory recommended overlap of 4" on each side of the door. If your needs differ, make changes accordingly. See the note below the drawing.

Measuring Verticals - Door

If you wish to have the vanes "stack" further off the opening than normal, add inches to the ordered width accordingly. In this case, your final track location will be "off center" to the opening in the direction of the stack.

Measuring for Vertical blinds on a standard window

Most verticals must be mounted "outside" the window frame due to depth restrictions. The rare exception would be "casement" style windows that provide 3" to 4" of unobstructed mounting depth. Instructions for both types mounting are provided here.

Manufacturers recommend that the outside mount vertical blind overlap the window by 4" on each side, and 3" at top and bottom to provide adequate light control and privacy.

Outside Mount (recommended)

Note - You may modify the side and bottom overlaps from the manufacturers recommendations to suit your individual requirements, but you must allow at least 2" above the window frame for the head rail placement. Measure accordingly.
Inside Mount (you must have 3" to 4" unobstructed mounting depth to use an inside mount with verticals.)
Important - Order the exact measurements you take of the inside of the window frame as instructed here. When you mark your order "inside" mount, the factory will automatically calculate the necessary deductions for proper clearance.
